Quarried Rock and Stone

Stone is a strong and durable material used in the building industry for 1000's of years. The Whelan Group has specialised in the extraction of stone since 1972, when our first quarry opened for business. Since then, we have opened another 6 quarries, producing primarily crushed stone.

These materials are produced from natural deposits of various materials such as Limestone, Gritstone and Sandstone. Our quarrying process typically begins with drilling and blasting the rock into smaller pieces. Next, the material goes through various stages of crushing and screening to produce the sizes and specification desired by our customers.

Our construction aggregates are used in a number of different ways:

  1. As a base material underneath carriageways, retail parks, factories etc.
  2. To aid in water filtration and coastal erosion control.
  3. As a raw material used in combination with other resources to construct many of the items we rely on to sustain our standard of living. These include:
    • Homes and Apartments
    • Roads and Bridges
    • Schools and Hospitals
    • Commercial buildings and Retail Parks
    • Airports
